Since October 2020 the Cathedral Sunday School has been online only. Our Sunday School Co-ordinator Ged Bates, gives an update on what this involves:
The COVID pandemic has not stopped the Cathedral Sunday School from operating. In ‘normal’ times, up to one hundred children from ages three to eleven years, would enjoy face to face lessons in Prebendal House or the St. David Chapel, from 9.00am on Sunday morning. But now our Sunday School leaders record videos of lessons, which are then emailed out to parents each week. Three different lessons are issued (one for each age group) and the lessons will include: a Bible reading with some discussion or commentary and an art or craft activity, as well as some prayers and a hymn. The leaders often involve their own children in the video lessons, perhaps to read the Bible story or lead the prayer. Parents are asked to take a photo of the completed activity (which might be for example: a completed craft item, painting or quiz sheet) and email this back to the Sunday School mailbox. This is both to provide a record of participation but also to get feedback. We regularly receive sixty or seventy emails back from families each week.
As Sunday School leaders we try hard to provide lessons that are both spiritually profound and challenging, but also great fun. It is a privilege and a joy to work with the children, and we look forward to the time when face to face lessons can resume. It has been daunting to overcome nervousness and record ourselves in this way, but the positive response from the children and their parents has helped to build our confidence.
Sunday School registration is still open for 2020/21, please see the letter and form attached/below. To join Sunday School and to access the online videos during the Covid-19 Pandemic, families need to be registered. Please return the completed form to [email protected]
