Cymerodd flynyddoedd iddo lunio\u2019r darlun ac nid oedd yn barod nes 1864, er mawr ryddhad i\u2019r Deon a\u2019r Cabidwl.\u00a0 Roedd Rossetti\u2019n anfodlon iawn gyda\u2019i leoliad (roedd y golau\u2019n anghywir) a\u2019i osodiad (mewn carreg wen Caen).\u00a0 Yn ystod adferiad y Gadeirlan wedi\u2019r rhyfel, nid oedd George Pace yn awyddus i ddychwelyd i drefniant Fictorianaidd y cysegr, felly symudwyd y darlun i\u2019r Capel Illtud Newydd o dan D\u0175r Jasper. Ym 1989, penderfynodd Donald Buttress, pensaer yr gadeirlan, adnewyddu\u2019r Capel ac oil-osod y darlun mewn fframyn euraid. Cyflawnodd hyn drwy bwysleisio Crist fel un o linach Dafydd, sydd yn cael ei ddylunio yn y paneli ochr fel bugail tlawd ac fel brenin cyfoethog. Roedd yn awyddus hefyd i ddangos fod Crist yn cael ei foli gan y tlawd a\u2019r cyfoethogfelly caiff Crist ei ddylunio\u2019n cael ei foli gan frenin a bugail ar yr un pryd.
