The Cathedral is now closed…

21st February 2017 by llandaff

Cathedral Closed…as the Electoral College of the Church in Wales is now meeting to elect a successor as Bishop of Llandaff.

The College may meet for up to three consecutive days in order to reach a decision; if it is unable to do so within this deadline the decision passes to the Bench of Bishops.

The Electoral College meeting began today (Tuesday February 21st) with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Following the service the college members meet in private as the Cathedral is locked.

Almighty God, giver of every good gift,
look graciously on your Church,
and with your heavenly wisdom
so guide the minds of those
who shall choose a bishop for this Diocese,
that we may receive a faithful pastor
to feed your flock
and lead us in the way of holiness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Consecration of the Bishop of St Davids

20th January 2017 by llandaff

We are looking forward to a historic day as final preparations and rehearsals take place for the consecration of Wales’ first woman bishop.

12The Rev’d Canon Joanna Penberthy will be consecrated as Bishop of St Davids at Llandaff Cathedral on Saturday January 21st.

She was elected as the 129th Bishop of St Davids by members of the Electoral College in November. It was the first opportunity for a woman to be elected as a bishop following the Church’s decision in 2013 to enable the ordination of women bishops.

Canon Joanna will be consecrated by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, with the five other Welsh bishops, and the Archbishop will give the address.

Our Mission Statement

Llandaff Cathedral is a Christian gathering of the Church in Wales, which is a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion. It is also the seat of the Bishop of Llandaff. The Cathedral is a focus of pilgrimage and spirituality in the Diocese of Llandaff and for the City of Cardiff. Our purpose is therefore to worship God and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. In so doing, we welcome all who come here, irrespective of gender, race, creed or sexuality, in order that we might share and pass on our rich Christian heritage and the joy of Christian faith.
