We would like to extend our thanks to Mr William Budd and Budd Electrical and Watkins and Gunn for their support and generosity with the repairs and relamping to restore the outside lighting and turn the Cathedral red for the launch of the British Legion Poppy Appeal last October.
We are looking forward to a historic day as final preparations and rehearsals take place for the consecration of Wales’ first woman bishop.
The Rev’d Canon Joanna Penberthy will be consecrated as Bishop of St Davids at Llandaff Cathedral on Saturday January 21st.
She was elected as the 129th Bishop of St Davids by members of the Electoral College in November. It was the first opportunity for a woman to be elected as a bishop following the Church’s decision in 2013 to enable the ordination of women bishops.
Canon Joanna will be consecrated by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, with the five other Welsh bishops, and the Archbishop will give the address.
A half muffled peal will be rung on the Bells of Llandaff Cathedral on Sunday 23rd October to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Aberfan disaster. We continue to remember the victims and their families and hold them in our prayers. The bells will be rung before the 11.00am and 3.30pm services.
