A Feast of Music

The Cathedral will be bursting with wonderful music as we pull out all the stops to celebrate the festive season. The beautiful building provides a special venue for a feast of choral and orchestral works by talented performers from across the UK. Here is a summary of our exciting programme of upcoming concerts:

Home for Christmas – Military Wives Choirs
Thursday 23 November, 7.30pm

The Military Wives Choirs of Colerne and Bristol, with special guests the Royal British Legion Band of Wales, will be singing festive favourites. The choirs bring together women who understand just how tricky this time of year can be for military families, giving them the chance to stand stronger together and express themselves through song. Vivaldi: The Four Seasons – London Concertante
Saturday 25 November, 7.30pm

London Concertante is one of the finest chamber ensembles in the country, its players brought together through a shared passion for chamber music. The concert features many much-loved pieces, including Elgar’s ‘Serenade for Strings’, Rossini’s ‘String Sonata No. 2’ and Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’. Founded in 1991, the ensemble performs around 100 concerts every year and has toured Europe, the USA and the Middle East. Visit London Concertante for more information and tickets.

 

Christmas by Candlelight – G4
Tuesday 28 November, 7.30pm

G4 shot to fame on the first series of ITV’s The X Factor in 2004, where they pioneered the world of popular opera. This year, they return to 22 churches and cathedrals for their ‘Christmas By Candlelight’ Tour, in association with Missing People, who are a lifeline when someone goes missing. Expect to hear timeless classics such as When A Child is Born, Silent Night and All I Want For Christmas, as well as delightful medleys to evoke the Christmas spirit. The Ten Tenors Gala Christmas Concert
Friday 1 December, 7.15pm

The Ten Welsh Tenors are back by popular demand with an amazing concert featuring ten of the finest tenors from all over Wales with a feast of sumptuous popular operatic delights for this special gala event. The ten tenors will take to the stage and raise the roof in aid of Welsh Hearts, Wales’ leading heart charity. The tenors will be joined by guest sopranos on the evening to perform heart-warming renditions of favourite arias and duets, including a helping of Christmas classics to get everyone in the mood for the festive season. Christmas with Handel and Bach
– Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society
Saturday 2 December, 7.30pm

To mark the start of Advent, the Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society are performing choruses from the first part of Handel’s Messiah and the first three parts of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. The choir will be joined by the Llandaff Sinfonia and John Cheer (organ continuo). The conductor will be Alexander Thacker: the soloists will be Ellen Williams (soprano), Nicole Boardman (alto), Dominic Neville (tenor) and Edmund Caird (baritone).
