We would like to extend our thanks to Mr William Budd and Budd Electrical and Watkins and Gunn for their support and generosity with the repairs and relamping to restore the outside lighting and turn the Cathedral red for the launch of the British Legion Poppy Appeal last October.
On Sunday 5 February, Llandaff Cathedral will celebrate the Feast of Candlemas with a sequence of music and readings at 3.30pm. Although Christmas Day has now passed and most decorations have long been packed away, the Church continues to commemorate the coming of Christ and the light he brings into the darkness until Candlemas Day (2 February – 40 days after Christmas).
The service begins with the Responsory for Advent Sunday, attributed to Palestrina, and during the course of the service the cathedral choir will sing further choral music by Macmillan, Archer, Mathias, Warlock and Stopford. The sequence concludes with the reading for Candlemas after which the choir sing the words of Simeon in the Nunc dimittis by Sir George Dyson. During the service, Biblical readings will once again recall the promise and birth of Jesus and the events of the first part of his life among us.
All are welcome to attend what promises to be a joyous and uplifting celebration.
